trying to keep parents from hating each other- feeling like it is up to You to soothe the other parent when there has been a fight
Having to pick words carefully so you don't slip and tell a secret one parent doesn't want the other to know
Having to bounce back and forth from one to another
Not seeing the other parent every day
Spending less time with one parent than another
Not having either parent tell explain things
Hearing two sides and having no way to validate either
Sitting between parents and being held together
References :
Usually the child blames themself for the break-up. They are also in shock when mom and dad aren't living in the same house anymore. Everything that the child is used to is suddenly taken away. I'm not for divorce either, but some people marry for the worst reasons An unhappy marriage is not only bad for the adults involved, but the children suffer in that situation too because they're a lot smarter than we think and can really sense when something isn't quite right. Children are stuck in the middle when marriages go bad.
